REPORT ON THE SAIMUN MOCK DEBATE HELD ON 22ND FEBRUARY 2025
Introduction On 22nd February 2025, a SAIMUN (Sub Saharan International Model United Nations) mock debate was successfully held at Regis School Runda. The event brought together participants from over ten different Kenyan schools, offering students an excellent opportunity to refine their debating skills in preparation for the main SAIMUN conference scheduled for July.
Event Structure and Activities
The debate featured 19 students from our school, who were grouped into teams of five and assigned to different rooms. Each group engaged in rigorous discussions through moderated and unmoderated caucuses on the topics of dictatorship and online privacy in the digital age.
During the debate, students actively participated by:
• Raising and defending motions
• Speaking against motions
• Raising Points of Information (POIs)
The debates were both engaging and intellectually stimulating, allowing students to sharpen their public speaking, critical thinking, and diplomatic negotiation skills.
Student Participation and Experience
The students displayed confidence and eloquence in their discussions, looking sharp in their official wear. Beyond the debate, they also had the opportunity to interact with participants from other schools, fostering new friendships and networking with fellow debaters. The event served as a valuable learning experience as they look forward to future mock debates and the main conference in July.

Advisors and Hospitality
The students were accompanied by their MUN advisors, Ms. Stephanie Malika and Mr. Cedric Ongeri, who provided guidance and support throughout the event. Regis School Runda was a gracious host, extending warm hospitality to both students and advisors. The advisors were treated to breakfast during a brief meeting where discussions about SAIMUN and future engagements were held.
Conclusion
The event officially concluded at 2:00 PM. On our way back, we made a quick stop for lunch at Pizza Inn Gigiri, marking the end of a productive and enriching day. The students are eager for future mock debates and are well on their way to becoming formidable delegates for the upcoming SAIMUN conference in July.
